Dr. Smith grew up in New Jersey with family pups George and Jarrod (Christmas gifts!), favorite cats Popcorn and Squeegee, many fish and gerbils, a rat named Rizzo, and Cody: a spunky Yorkie and faithful companion all through high school, college, vet school, and her first job. After earning a bachelor’s in environmental health and graduating from vet school at Colorado State University, Dr. Smith completed a specialty internship in southern California and joined an emergency vet outside Portland, Oregon. She spent more than ten years in ER medicine before returning to CSU to teach at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
As a vet assistant at a rehabilitation center in college, Dr. Smith discovered the amazing benefits of acupuncture. Today, she is certified in medical acupuncture and is excited to help Eno pets with chronic or painful conditions.
Dr. Smith moved into general practice in 2020 to focus on preventative care—to use her experience and expertise to keep pets healthy, happy, and out of the ER!
Her professional interests include pain management, toxicities, trauma, and soft tissue surgery. Her passion for teaching continues. Hundreds of cases stick with her, especially a sweet pup who was shot by an arrow. Alongside wonderful pet parents, Dr. Smith managed his long recovery and got him back to rights.
“It was incredibly rewarding,” she says. “All my patients help me become a better doctor.”
Her favorite part of vet care is building long-lasting relationships with pets and their people. As a Fear Free pro, she especially enjoys building trust and bonding with pets who are initially nervous.
Dr. Smith likes yoga, paddle boarding, snowboarding, and, really, anything outdoors. She’s excited to explore her adopted Bull City: a perfect pup-friendly, active community! Her spirit animal is the giraffe: gentle yet powerful, inspiring and intuitive, peaceful, humble, and empathetic.
